Hej Jens K, Lad mig lige sige tak for dine indlæg. Du lyder som om, du har tjek på det.. ... ... not. Q står for Question, or A står for Answer. Q: Does the type of gas you use on your car affect the performance? A: "yes". On modified cars (boosted) gas/octane has a more direct relation to power. For example, I could put 93 octane in my MKI and not tell a difference between than ant 87 octane. But for a modified MKII with a built 3SGTE, you will REALLY be able to tell between octane ratings. Usually lower octane will cause you to ping/detonate really badly. A2: 91+ octane...aka Premium Highly modified get 'race gas' which is 105+ octane...some guys run E85... A3: There is no point in putting in a higher octane gas if your car doesn't require it. Like my example, there is no need for my N/A to be running Supreme (93 octane) gas. There is not benefit for me because my engine is tuned to use 87 octane. A4: the octane of gas you use has NO effect on horsepower what so ever. The octane rating refers to its detonation protection. the more compression or boost you run the higher the octane you will want to run. its a matter of protection. thats why high performance high compression cars have to run race gas. IIRC turbos only require 91 not 93 and N/A's only need 87. the only thing running higher octane ratings will hurt is your wallet. or if you try to save the engine from knock. hope this helped. A5: Turbos and superchargers are not the only engines that need the higher octanes. N/A can and some do require 91+. With higher compression ratios, such as those find in high performance engines and a lot of the older muscle cars, require the higher octanes. A6: Octane has no affect on horsepower unless you're tuning. You can run a more aggressive tune on higher octane gas. That's why you always see "xxx rwhp on pump gas" or "xxx on race gas", etc. because it resists knock better. A7: I would think that the RDX has a sophisticated enough knock detection system to cut back power when the computer detects detonation. I know my 2zz celica runs like crap if you put in reg, but it does run, and i credit that to the electronic gadgetry.
Ur A$$ was Grass... until I smoked it :)
